John Smith

JOHN SMITH was born in 1952 in Walthamstow, East London. He studied directing at the Royal College of Art. In the years of his creative evolution, he was seriously influenced by conceptual art, and also by the ideas of “structural” film which were popular at the time. He was amazed by the power of immersion which narrative and words are capable of creating.
John Smith takes everyday life as his basis, but boldly studies and transforms it, destroying the boundaries between feature and non-feature film, between depiction and abstraction, developing (or unmasking) the cinematic language.
He lives and works in London.
