Cryosphere

United States, 2012, 6min.

A haunting wailing cry to stop the melting of a glacier. Filmed in Juneau Alaska on the Mendenhall Glacier in 2012, this film was an attempt to capture the heartbeat of the ice and experience the dramatic changes occurring to this landscape, while addressing the issues of global warming. With slow pacing, unnerving bass saxophone notes, close up abstract framing, time-lapse photography and hand-held ice cave imagery, Cryosphere brings glacial sights to the screen that are rarely witnessed. This film documents a landscape that will vanish within our lifetime if changes to the environment are not made. It concludes with a tidal wave of water that illustrates the impending melt that will wash over this land, and a call-to-arms to “STOP” what is happening.
